Child's Birthday

The birthday ceremony is an important event at school and for your child. With respect and reverence, the class honours your child’s birthday. In the kindergarten classes, parents are invited to the ceremony.

Easter

At Yorkland, we celebrate Easter as a festival of new life. For example in flowers, a budding stem. Whereby in chicken, the hatching of eggs. In this special morning, children will creatively color eggs which they get to bring back for the day. A puppet show speaking of transformation of a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly to reflect our celebration of new life is made available for the children by the teachers. Then kicks in another fun act; a treasure hunt! The children will begin to hunt out the big and small eggs [peanuts] which are hidden in the garden. All the eggs found are served for their lunch, celebrating their victory.

Hari Raya

Being a part of Malaysia’s multi racial country, Hari Raya is not forgotten either. On this special day, teachers will story tell on the festival and sing along with the children. To allow children to experience the festival better, local Malay delicacies are served during their lunch hour.

Tanabata

This is the day of the year, according to a Chinese plus Japanese folktale, when the Weaver Princess and the Cowherd could meet across the Milky Way to renew their love for each other. The children will make Tanzaku for this celebration. Tanzuka is a special strip of paper on which their special wishes are written. Tanzuka and other ornaments are hung on a bamboo branch during tanabata and placed in the house as a way of entreating better things to come.

Deepavali

Festival of Lights is one of the festival celebrate at Yorkland which symbolizes the spiritual “victory of lights over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance”. Narrating stories about the festive to the kids while lighting up the oil lamp, making colourful ‘rangoli’ with children are some of the special highlights of the day. Not forgetting, crunchy Indian snacks out for munch.
